Hullabaloo Hoppers Update

Posted Thursday 21 September 2017 by Perth Swing Dance Society in ,

It is with regret that the PSDS announces the adjournment of the Hullabaloo Hoppers.

As the Perth swing dance schools have increasingly taken on the role of offering local dancers the opportunity to perform the dance that they love for others, it is felt that the Hullabaloo Hoppers, in their current form, no longer continue serve the purpose of fulfilling the desire for a scene lead performance troupe. With declining active membership numbers and the increasing cost of maintaining a performance troupe, the PSDS has decided to suspend the activities of the Hullabaloo Hoppers.

The Hullabaloo Hoppers have been a part of the Perth swing scene for over 15 years, delivering hundreds of performances around the city, and regularly performing at their namesake, Perth’s Hullabaloo.

The PSDS is grateful for all the members, both past and present, who have helped shape the history of performance in Perth, who have given their time and passion to the scene, and who made the Hullabaloo Hoppers the institution that it is. The PSDS is delighted that we could offer our scene a place to explore the love of our dance, and share it with others. We thank you all, for everything you have given to the Hoppers over the years.

We will be putting a ‘Hullabaloo Hoppers gallery’ together on the PSDS website to archive the many photos and videos of the team and its changing members, from its early beginnings back in 2003 right through to 2017. A great way to preserve some important PSDS history. Stay tuned…

Hullabaloo 2018 Committee – Expressions of Interest

Posted Thursday 21 September 2017 by Perth Swing Dance Society in , , ,

Presented by: Perth Swing Dance Society
Whilst Hullabaloo 2017 might now be a distant memory, we’re starting to look towards Hulla 2018.

This means we are after people to join the Committee, and come to meetings, and be a part of the planning, and form lifelong Stockholm-esque bonds with your fellow inmat… committee members. So if you want to come and be a committee member, we’d love that. But if you just don’t have that much to give, that’s okay too.

Jobs include (but not limited to) setting up and packing down events, helping at workshops, scouting & managing venues, coordinating supplies and getting everything from a to b to c, managing volunteers, hosting, registrations, secretarial jobs like note taking and document checking, researching and applying for grants, helping with DJs and bands, looking at marketing and promotions, and running individual events.

If there’s anything here that appeals to you, or if you have any questions, please feel free to have a chat to Amanda Giglia, Luke Rokich, Emily Clarke or Elida Solecio. You can also message the FB page, or drop us an email at hullainfo@gmail.com. Help us make Hulla 2018 as awesome as all the rest.

The new PSDS website!

Posted Monday 18 April 2016 by Perth Swing Dance Society in

It’s finally here!

The Perth Swing dance Society would like to welcome you to the long awaited new website! After more than 12 years of hard service, the ‘old’ PSDS website had gotten very long in the tooth and needed to be put into retirement.

The new website offers a guide to all the swing events we know of in Western Australia, including information about events from the PSDS, swing schools and other sources, making it far easier to know what’s coming up. It also has categories you can use to find specific events, such as workshops, free events and live music!

There are many other features of the website for you to explore, including:

  • Being able to join the PSDS directly through the website (using PayPal for payments)
  • Information on swing history, ettiquete, clothing etc
  • Information about where to learn to swing dance in Perth
  • Links to local musicians
  • A responsive design- for those of you that don’t ‘talk websites’, this means the website adapts to the screen you are accessing it from, making it easy to read on a computer, phone and tablet.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank a few individuals and companies who have helped out in the development of this website. Firstly to Lotterywest who provided us with a grant towards the cost of creating this website. To Clever Starfish who designed and built the website, with particular mention to Gregory Bruyer and Trevor Hutchison who donated some of their time to help develop (Greg) and design (Trev) the website and Hyper IT who are hosting our website free of charge. We would also like to acknowledge the work that has gone into this website by the PSDS committees over the last 3 years, with particular mention to Michelle Turner has also worked tirelessly to provide almost all of the written content for the site and continues to update info on a regular basis and to Fiona Kemp who has worked on this project from the start, secured the grant from Lotterywest and has seen the project through to fruition.

We hope that you can use this site as your one-stop ‘Perth swing information centre’. We will be also be archiving photos and adding articles to the blog, so accessing information about the Perth scene will be easier than ever.

The PSDS would like to welcome your feedback about the new website, including if you have any issues using it or if you notice any errors. If you have something to tell us, either use the Contact Us section of the website or send us an email at feedback@perthswing.com.
