Covid-19 Announcement

Posted Saturday 18 April 2020 by Perth Swing Dance Society in , ,

Sadly, due to the Covid-19 outbreak all upcoming events have been removed from the PSDS online calendar for the time being.

We want to ensure that our community is safe and that our actions support the efforts to flatten the curve and overcome this Covid-19 pandemic.

While regular classes, swing dancing events and activities are on hold for now, we hope to keep our community connected, even during times of social distancing. Keep in touch with others in the Perth swing dance community via our Facebook page and through the pages of the schools you attend. You can also support swing schools by attending their classes online.

Please continue to support the community and one other. Stay safe and In times like these, we need to be patient and kind. This includes being kind to yourself.

The new PSDS website!

Posted Monday 18 April 2016 by Perth Swing Dance Society in

It’s finally here!

The Perth Swing dance Society would like to welcome you to the long awaited new website! After more than 12 years of hard service, the ‘old’ PSDS website had gotten very long in the tooth and needed to be put into retirement.

The new website offers a guide to all the swing events we know of in Western Australia, including information about events from the PSDS, swing schools and other sources, making it far easier to know what’s coming up. It also has categories you can use to find specific events, such as workshops, free events and live music!

There are many other features of the website for you to explore, including:

  • Being able to join the PSDS directly through the website (using PayPal for payments)
  • Information on swing history, ettiquete, clothing etc
  • Information about where to learn to swing dance in Perth
  • Links to local musicians
  • A responsive design- for those of you that don’t ‘talk websites’, this means the website adapts to the screen you are accessing it from, making it easy to read on a computer, phone and tablet.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank a few individuals and companies who have helped out in the development of this website. Firstly to Lotterywest who provided us with a grant towards the cost of creating this website. To Clever Starfish who designed and built the website, with particular mention to Gregory Bruyer and Trevor Hutchison who donated some of their time to help develop (Greg) and design (Trev) the website and Hyper IT who are hosting our website free of charge. We would also like to acknowledge the work that has gone into this website by the PSDS committees over the last 3 years, with particular mention to Michelle Turner has also worked tirelessly to provide almost all of the written content for the site and continues to update info on a regular basis and to Fiona Kemp who has worked on this project from the start, secured the grant from Lotterywest and has seen the project through to fruition.

We hope that you can use this site as your one-stop ‘Perth swing information centre’. We will be also be archiving photos and adding articles to the blog, so accessing information about the Perth scene will be easier than ever.

The PSDS would like to welcome your feedback about the new website, including if you have any issues using it or if you notice any errors. If you have something to tell us, either use the Contact Us section of the website or send us an email at feedback@perthswing.com.

Hullabaloo History!

Posted Saturday 5 March 2016 by Perth Swing Dance Society in , ,

It all started in 2004…

Many new dancers are unaware that by April 2016, Hullabaloo will have been running for 13 years! In 2013 we ran our 10th Anniversary Hullabaloo and boy it was a big one! Because it was such a special event some of us thought it would be a good idea to produce posters showing the history of Hullabaloo over the years. The information included which international teachers came to teach, the names of people who were on the Hullabaloo committee that year, the logo and themes and photos of the event. I designed these and would like to add them here for posterity and as an archive of modern Perth swing history and will add the newer years soon. Enjoy!
